Hello, my name is Eugene W. Gray and I was one of the 13 members of the Cadre that formed company L. At this time only two of us survive, William R. Lee and myself. I appreciate the dedication and efforts that Alan Henderson has made to make this Site a reality. I Salute my Comrades and I am truly grateful for the lifelong friendship we have enjoyed.

11/07/00 Hi, I,m Mary Beth Baker, a friend and employee of Eugene W. Gray who was with Company L. He knew and trained my uncle, Edward Sulicz during WWII. Of course, I never knew my dad's brother as he left Company L as a replacement for Merrils Marauders and was killed in Burma, but through Gene I was able to know him a little. My eyes and heart have been opened wide about WWII through Gene. Thanks to all of you heroes for your sacrifices during the war.

I am Ginnie Delgadillo, and I have had the priviledge of coming to the Company L Reunions for several years with Gene Gray. I have enjoyed the stories, some funny some sad, of both the men of Company L and the women who waited for them to come home from the War. I am proud to say that I have been accepted as one of the (Company L Bunch)

What better day than today, Veterans' Day, to view the Company L Carrier website. Thank you all for putting your lives on the line to fight for our freedom. You are all heroes. I think it would be interesting to put 1940 pictures side by side with 2000 pictures so we could see the army buddies as what they looked like back then and also now. Maybe that could be added to this website.

My dad (Co.L. cook) is coming to visit for Thanksgiving so maybe I can get him to cook the dinner...hmmmmmmm....but we'd probably end up with enough to feed a small army...so to speak! What was his cooking REALLY like????!

I am Marilyn Coulon Putman, first child (of four) of James Wirt Coulon from the 2nd Squad of 3rd Platoon. Dad died when I was 22, and I have been thrilled beyond measure to have found Vern Henderson, bless his soft old heart, to correspond with. He has helped me to learn more about my dad and about the many sacrifices that he, and all of you, made for those of us at home. If there is anyone out there with information about Dad that you would be willing to share with me, I would truly treasure the opportunity. I can be reached at crazypatch39@hotmail.com Great job, Alan!

I eventually ended up with the 96th division making landings on Leyte,Phillipines and Okinawa,Japanese island. Want to give my regards to those making this site possible.

Hello All,

This is Alan Henderson Webmaster of the Company L Carrier WebSite. I have received about 5 articles that Gene, Bones, Tom, and Blaz have sent in.  I would like more content before I add these wonderful articles and pictures.
 Here is a list of what I need;
-List of Co. L men sorted by platoon
-Addresses
-Set of photo's 1940 & Recent (Darla's Idea)
-Email Address

My plan is to create a photo and a comment area next to each man (sorted by platoon) whose name I have received. Allowing friends and family members etc. to add comments/memories as time goes by.

I thank you for your help and warm responses, God bless!

Hello,

I have enjoyed reading the history of the 97TH on your very informative web site, especially the hearldry of the 97TH insignia. I was priviledged to wear the trident shoulder patch while assigned to a unit of the 97TH ARCOM, now at FT Meade, MD. I am guessing that the 97TH was re-activated as the 97TH Army Reserve Command, with the same insignia. I served in the 342ND ASA Company from 1980 to 1982, when I moved away from the Maryland area. (I now am employed as a civilian contractor at HQ, US Army Europe, Heidelberg, Germany.) Thanks for an excellent web site.

Sincerely,

Bones Bartig has been extremely helpful in putting me in touch with people who have memories of, or materials relating to, Felix's time in the service. I have been in touch with Jim Kirkpatrick, who is the son of a 386th veteran, and with John Sloan of Spokane, a surviving Company C veteran who has some first-hand memories of Felix. Please get your information to her today, so she can make necessary arrangements. This being the six month anniversary of the Sept. 11th terrorist attack, I try to fathom what it must have been like for all of you Co. L soldiers during W.W.II. Greetings men of Company L. My name is Jim Kirkpatrick, and my father was in C company of the 386th Regiment (he died approx. 10 years ago). His best fried and buddy since childhood was Jack Beauchamp, who was in Company L and KIA. I have been in touch with Bones Bartig about Jack and believe he will be publishing information about Jack's silver star. Bones also helped my find buddies of my father in Company C. I have talked to or corresponded with others who knew my dad (some very well), and have recieved pictures of him that I have never seen before.

Thanks to Bones for everything. Thank you for your past sacrifices.

On April 25, 2002 my wife and I attended the 25 year club banquet at the Post 52 American Legion here in La Crosse. I have 27 years in here at LaX, had about 2 years in Lake City, MN. No credit. Arlene was not over anxious to attend, she enjoyed it and came home with a free six pack of La Crosse Lift beer. I was given my 25 year pin after 2 years of not attending the presentation for mine. La Crosse beer has replaced Heileman's here in La Crosse, and doing well.

How about the rest of you, how many belonge to a military group?

An FYI to all those interested in research material for the 97th Infantry, 386th infantry regiment. I bought a couple books "Index to General Orders" that a gentleman put together and is selling online for $10. He is also selling the GO copies for $5 each. The book that I have found very useful is a listing of all 386th members that recieved the Combat Infantry Badge [CIB]. The list is alphabetical with the GO number stated and the rank of the solder. If anyone is looking for a list of 386th members, this is a great item. Just thought I would let you know. The gentlemans name is: Brandon Wiegand [D-Day Militaria] Military Research & Publishing EMAIL:saw10thpainf@hotmail.com (724)226-9436 If this can help someone find information about a loved one that was a vet of the 97th, that would be great. Great appreciation goes out to Bones Bartig for his assistance to me. Best regards, Erik Lindquist EMAIL: mnvettes@aol.com (Nephew to Dale C. Paul, 386th, Co."I")

Earlier entry (2001): ********** Hello, I have enjoyed reading the history of the 97TH on your very informative web site, especially the heraldry of the 97TH insignia. Sincerely, Edward C. Moore CW3, USAR *********** I noted that I neglected to give a contact address, so if anyone wants to e-mail me, my e-mail address is: kk4zy@yahoo.com I'd be interested in hearing from any former members of 342nd ASA Company, Ft. Meade. (Just did a web search for 342nd ASA and this message is the only one that comes up!) Thanks, Ed Moore

Hello. My name is Eric Johnson. I am a Captain in the Texas National Guard and formerly an Officer in the United States Marine Corps. I have been doing research on my Grandfather who passed away in 1975. His name was Russell Cole and he served in the 386th Infantry Regiment from 19 Feb 1945 to 3 Feb 1946. I am also trying to determine what awards he was authorized so I could do a shadow box for my mother, in his memory... and of course would like to know what company he served in. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I can be emailed at either eric.johnson@tx.ngb.army.mil or at srfdog101@aol.com. Thanks again, thank you for your service and God Bless!!!!

Hello. My name is Dennis Fishel, son of Lawrence Fishel of Company I, 386th IR...or at least I think that's where he was most of the time. The loss of my father in 2000 added to his silence on the subject of WWII and the loss of his records in the St. Louis records section fire have left many gaps. If any of you knew Dad and can fill in details of places and events, it would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at defishel@hotmail.com. And to all of you who served during that dangerous time, thank you. Dennis E. Fishel

I have a copy of the St. Louis Review from June 13, 1945 which states that several men from the 386th infantry, 97th division went with the division chaplain Capt. George Phillips (from Watertown, NY) to see German Stigmatic Theresa Neuman. I received this copy from my uncle who was a private working in HQ.

Hello: My name is Linda Sulicz. My husband is Edward F. Sulicz named after his Uncle Edward Sulicz who was killed in Burma during WWII. We went to Hawaii in April of 2004 and visited my husband's Uncle's gravesite (we did indeed find it) and found out he died on June 14th, which just so happened to be my birth date also. What a surprise. Edward Sulicz that was killed in Burma was from East Chicago, Indiana, and his brother Eugene Sulicz ("Gene") was my husband's father.

2/21/05 My father, Laurence Kendall, was in the unit. When he was alive he told me he was in cadre and assigned to guard the headquarters. I know there were some 2000 pound bombs dropped near him. As he was 34 years old he wasn't chosen for any jungle missions. I don't know of anyone else in the Unit but would like to. Yours truly, Laurence Kendall E-mail LAURENCE_KENDALL@MSN.COM

My name is Vern Henderson, and I was a member of the first platoon of Co. L, 386th Infantry Regiment, 97th Infantry Division. I joined the company at Camp Callan, having been transferred from Co. G, 113th Special Infantry Regiment at Camp Pickett, Virginia. Joe Morales was my squad leader, and Jimmie Steele was my foxhole buddy. Some time ago, some fellow asked about "Rummy". His name was Raymond Wisneski, and he joined the company the same day I did, coming from the same outfit. he was indeed crazy, and served in combat as a member of Joe Cronin's machinegun crew.

This is Vern Henderson again. I'm proud of the fact that I served in the US Army from August 23, 1940 until October 9, 1945, rising from truck driver to Motor Sergeant, taking a voluntary reduction to private to transfer to the Tank Destroyer Forces, where I became a Platoon Sergeant. I was shanghaied to the infantry in early 1944, and was busted June 1 of that year for reasons we won't go into here. I read everything I can get my hands on about the war, and it's amazing how many stupid stories and outright lies you can read about that war. BS is one thing, but lies demean us all.

If any of you don't realize it, time is fleeting for us old duffers. If I last four more days, I'll bw 84 years of age, and as of November first of this year, Myrl and I will have been married for 64 years. Although much of our combat time together is pretty much of a blank, I'm proud to have served with my buddies in Co. L of the 386th Infantry Regiment. Some of us may differ on some details, but we served our country when called, and no one can take that away from us. Vern Henderson
